Have you already seen one of those wonderful, huge Morpho butterflies which are typical for Costa Rica’s rich nature and can be found all over the country? If you would like to learn more about these beautiful creatures, there are different butterfly gardens along the coast and two can be visited in our area. One is located in the “Reserva Playa Tortuga” in Ojochal and the other one is part of the Hacienda Barú National Wildlife Refuge near Dominical. On a self-guided tour you will see different local butterfly species and receive basic information about them. While walking through the reserve, you can also learn more about the tropical vegetation which serves as a source of food for the animals and provides space for their egg deposition. Later on, in the laboratory the process of hatching out and transforming from an inconspicuous pupa to a beautiful butterfly can be watched.
